Children naturally want to communicate. Newborn infants communicate hunger and discomfort by crying and as babies grow, their communication becomes more complex. Speech-Language Pathologists/Speech Therapists (STs) can evaluate how children understand language, respond to language, and interact-communicate with others. Speech Pathologists help children learn, how to follow directions, use gestures meaningfully, use words and phrases to communicate, answer and ask questions, use language in a social situation appropriately, and use language in a social situation appropriately.
At Assential Therapies, our Speech Pathologists offer parent education about each child's challenges and diagnosis. We then help the families learn new strategies to help support their child's receptive and expressive language development. We also can help families learn and use different communication strategies if needed including: PECS, sign language, assistive technical/communication devices, etc. Our Speech Pathologists have access to our multi-disciplinary team to help coordinate care and to treat the whole child and family. We work with a variety of medical professionals and specialists including pediatricians, ENTs, audiologists, school district staff, etc.
